Recipe for keto cottage pie

What is the difference between cottage pie and Shepards pie?

Not to get entangled in unending rounds of arguments, the clear-cut difference between a cottage pie and Shepard’s pie is that the former is made with beef while the latter is made with lamb.

While leftover roast meat has been the beef filling for cottage pie, more people are beginning to realize that ground beef tastes better. The ground beef filling does not only taste better. It also doesn’t eat deep into your pockets

What ingredients do you need to make keto cottage pie?

  • Olive oil ( 3 spoons)
  • garlic ( 2 crushed cloves)
  • Dried oregano ( 1 tablespoon)
  • Dice onion
  • Three sticks of diced celery
  • salt ( 1 teaspoon)
  • Ground beef ( 2 pounds)
  • Tomato paste ( 3 tablespoons)
  • Beef stock ( 1 cup)
  • Red wine vinegar (1/4 cup)
  • Fresh thyme leaves (2 tablespoons)
  • Green beans (10 ounces)
  • Cauliflower cut into evenly sized florets
  • Butter (3 ounces)
  • Salt ( 1/2 teaspoon)
  • Teaspoon of pepper
  • Three egg yolks 
  • Paprika ( a pinch)
  • Dried oregano ( a pinch)

How to make keto cottage pie with our recipe

Step 1. Place a saucepan ( preferably a large one) over high heat.

Step 2. Add the garlic, onion, oregano, olive oil, and celery and sauté for 5 minutes. Continue to sauté until the onion starts to get translucent. 

Step 3. Now, add the ground beef and salt and keep stirring until the meat starts to turn brown. 

Step 4. When the beef is browned, you can add the tomato paste. And keep stirring. 

Step 5. Mix the beef stock, red wine vinegar and allow to simmer until the liquid is reduced. 

Step 6. You can now add the thyme and green beans and simmer for another 5 minutes. Spoon the beef mixture into a casserole dish and set it aside. 

Step 7. Preheat the oven to 175 Celsius or 350 Fahrenheit 

Step 8. Fill a large saucepan with water and let it boil. 

Step 9. Add the cauliflower and let it cook for 10 minutes until it becomes tender. 

Step 10. Drain the water and cauliflower. After draining the cauliflower of water, turn the cauliflower, salt, pepper into a saucepan. 

Step 11. Blend the cauliflower to a mash, add the egg yolk and continue to blend. 

Step 12. Spoon the mashed cauliflower onto a casserole dis. 

Step13. Sprinkle the paprika and oregano 

Step 14. Bake for another 30 minutes or until the mash turns golden brown. 

Step 15. serve immediately, and remember to store leftovers in the fridge.
