Which Bluetooth Shower Speaker Should You Buy?

One of the hottest gifts in adult stockings this year is the Bluetooth shower speaker! Let’s face it, unless we are really into audio, most of us use our phones as our primary sound system these days. That means when we want to sing in the shower, we need a great sound that hooks up with our phone. Taking your phone into the shower is a dreadful idea, so don’t do it – get a great speaker instead.

So what are our top picks for shower speakers? In no particular order we have:

Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 – Sing in the shower

shower speaker

UE Wonderboom was one of the first portable Bluetooth speakers with decent sound quality. Before Ulitmate Ears, we usually had nothing but high-priced low-sound-quality to choose from if we wanted external speakers that would interact with our phone. These little speakers were pretty revolutionary, and the UE Wonderboom is still the standard against which other portable speakers are measured. Basically, you can’t go wrong with one of these.

Weighing in at under a pound, the ability to bounce without damage, and a 360 degree sound means it is the perfect speaker to take out camping, to family picnics, or the neighborhood barbeque. It is waterproof, and floats, so you can not only take it into the shower with you, but you can throw it in the pool.

Ingress Protection/International Protection Rating

The Wonderboom 2 has a serious IP67 rating. This means that it is rugged. The “6” means that it is completely ‘dust tight’ – this is the highest rating possible for dust protection. The “7” means that it is waterproof when submerged. You can’t go deep-sea diving with it, but if it falls off the boat you’ve got about 30 minutes to fish it out of the water.

IP Rating:  IP67

Battery Life: 13 Hours

Battery Type: Lithium Polymer

Audio Connection:  Bluetooth

Charging: USB Cable

Overall Option

Good if you want to travel, the kids are going to use it in the bath, or it’s going to get a pretty tough life. If you’re after something to listen to your blinkest in the shower without damaging your expensive apple iphone, look at other options.

JBL FLIP 5 – Pool Party

shower speaker

If sound quality is your thing, then the JBL Flip 5 is going to be high on your bucket list. With more clarity that than the UE, but still a powerful bass sound, it’s a great party starter. It is a bit heavier at just over a pound.

The Flip 5 has some significant differences from the earlier Flip 4 model. For one, gone is the microphone (which generally was more annoying for taking over phone calls than helpful). One of the issues that anyone upgrading may encounter is that the Flip 4 and Flip 5 are not able to be paired together. You can join more than one of the same model together to create a full stereo outdoor speaker system – but not different models.

Ingress Protection/International Protection Rating

The Flip 5 has an IP rating of IPX7. This means there is no official protection against any physical particles, but that “7” means that you can leave it in a 3ft pool for 30 minutes without worrying about a thing.

Overall Option

It’s an expensive option but has some of the best ratings for audio quality on the market. It all depends on what you want to use it for. Sound quality is great, which makes it versatile. Yes, you can use it in the shower to listen to your favorite podcast, but you can also take it on a boating trip and terrify fishes.

OontZ Angle 3 Ultra – Shower Podcast to Boat Party

shower speaker

This is one of the top Bluetooth shower speakers on the market. It’s also one of the most inexpensive. Designed and Engineered in the USA by Cambridge Sound Works, the OontZ Angle Ultra is a really unique design.

Ingress Protection/International Protection Rating

It seems that the current standard for waterproof portable speakers is an IP-7, and this is what you get with the OontZ Ultra. It will work in the bath, the shower, or the swimming pool and keep on blasting out the sound.

Overall Option

For bang for buck, this is a great speaker. There are cheaper options within the same brand so you can trade price for less battery life or decreased water resistance.

Ingress Protection (IP) Rating

This is the official international standard that lets you know exactly how well any electronic device will stand up against water or dust. You’ll see a number like “IP67” or “IPX7” in the specifications for any waterproof shower speaker. So when you’re comparing, let’s make sure you are comparing apples with apples.
