What is the best type of contact lens to wear?

What is the best type of contact lens? This is a very common question that comes to the mind of those searching for contact lenses. The best option is different for everyone and there are multiple brands offering unique features. Before you decide, you must have a conversation with your doctor and understand the best options for you.

Factors to consider

There are multiple factors that will determine the most suitable contact lens for you. Here are a few factors that you must consider:

  • Material of lens: Firstly, you need to decide between a soft contact lens and a hard contact lens. Soft biofinity contact lenses are the most preferred choice as they are very comfortable to wear, don’t get dislodged easily, and are perfect when you are on the go. Some people have used hard contact lenses all their life and are more comfortable with them. But if you see the majority of contact lens wearers, they will go for soft contact lenses.
  • Time for which you can wear them: Soft contact lenses are usually disposable. The most common ones are daily disposable or daily wear contact lenses. The other option available is extended wear lenses. You can wear these for up to 30 days. Extended wear lens is also available in weekly and bi-weekly disposable options. Daily wear lenses top the chart here, as they are easy to maintain and give crystal clear sight.
  • Option for indoor or outdoor usage: If you are concerned about the glare, but you don’t want to fumble around with your sunglasses then transition contact lenses are a perfect option for you. These lenses are not meant for everyone, but they are very suitable for those involved in a lot of outdoor activity.
  • Doctor’s prescription: Apart from the above factors, the most critical one would be your specific vision-related problems. For instance, someone with astigmatism will be prescribed toric lenses, someone using johnson and johnson lenses multi-focal glasses will be prescribed multi-focal lenses.

Avoiding complications with contact lenses

Contact lens usage sometimes leads to discomfort or infections. To avoid such problems, follow the below tips after you get your order of lens online.

  • Good hygiene: Wash your hands properly with soap and water. Pat them dry using a lint-free hand towel before you handle your contact lenses.
  • Minimal contact with saliva and water: Make sure you remove your lenses before a bath in a tub or a swim. Do not put your lenses in your mouth or apply saliva to them to make them wet.
  • Use proper contact lens solution: Use only commercially available products that are prepared and packed in a sterile environment. Discard the solution in the case each time you store your lenses. Do not use the solution after its expiry date.
  • Replace lenses as recommended: Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for using and replacing the contact lenses. Replace the lens case every three months.
  • Avoid over-the-counter lenses: Over the counter, lenses can cause eye injury or infections. If you want decorative or tinted contact lenses, ask your doctor for a recommendation.
