Understanding The Differences Between Dog Food

Just like your diet needs to be healthy and balanced, your dog’s diet needs to be too. If there are any imbalances, or if anything is missing, your dog may struggle to be as fit, happy, and healthy as it can be. There are lots of dog foods out there, and it can be difficult trying to establish which one is right for your dog and why. Getting to grips with the dog foods on offer is an obstacle that all dog owners face; however, once this has been taken care of, you can focus on other areas of your dog’s life, such as play and exercise. So, just what are the differences on offer between dog food?

Dry Kibble – Over Produced Food

Dry dog food or kibble is often very cheap to buy, but this does not mean that it is cheerful. Cheaply produced kibble can be full of extra additives and even fillers such as ash. Dry kibble or dry dog food aims to fill your dog’s stomach as quickly as possible. To achieve this, it uses ingredients such as cereal. Cereals alone rarely contain the goodness and the nutrition that your dog needs to maintain a balanced diet. If your dog is eating a solely dry-based diet, then it will often be very thirsty, and you may even find that its coat and skin is a lot dryer, or perhaps even more coarse than it should be. In short, dry food or kibble will fill your dog’s stomach, but will it fulfill its nutritional requirements? Probably not, which is, of course, not good for the short term or the long term.

Natural Diet – Taking Things Back to Basics

Your dog is, of course, domesticated, but it still has instincts. Even though it may not have the desire to go out and hunt, it will still have the desire to consume food that is as healthy and wild as possible. Looking at ancient foods and ancient diets is positive because this gives you the chance to give your dog the grains it needs. As you only need 4 reasons to change to ancient grains dog food the chance to take things back to basics for your dogs is just a bonus. Natural diets will help your dog be happy, energetic, and full of life and will also help to keep eyes bright and teeth clean and strong.

Food that’s Very Bright and Colorful – Lack of Nutrition and Nutrients

Yes, that bright and colorful dog food that you see on TV (in the pouches and tins) looks high quality – but is it? It looks like your dog would enjoy it, doesn’t it; the colors suggest that it is full of flavor and goodness, but what is lurking in those foods? Quite often, to get the color of the food that you see on the TV commercials, additives are used. Additives and artificial colors are unnecessary for your dog and its diet, and in some situations, they can cause stress or hyperactivity. As additives are not necessary, and as brightly colored food isn’t always equally highly nutritious, it is always best to leave these out of your basket where you can.
