Restaurant Guru Matthew Delsignore Suggests Three Easy Rum Cocktails You Need to Try Today

Rum is for more than just rum and coke, but many people tend to overlook it. In this article, an expert in the restaurant business Matthew Delsignore shares three easy rum cocktail ideas you should try at home.

Whether you’re looking for a cocktail to impress a date on Valentines Day, host a holiday party, or just want to have a good time with friends, reach for the rum.

While it might not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of a fancy cocktail to make, there are tons of easy and—most importantly—delicious rum cocktails out there your guests will absolutely love.

One reason why rum should be your liquor of choice is that it’s so versatile; it works well with fruity flavors, sour flavors, and both expensive and cheap cocktails.

Here are three recipes for easy rum cocktails you can make at home. Give them a try today!

Three-Ingredient Daiquiri

Every person should know a great recipe for a daiquiri. They’re classy and taste great when done right. When done wrong, you can end up with a sickeningly-sweet concoction that tastes like medicine. The trick is to add sweetness sparingly and keep it simple, letting the booze shine as the star of the cocktail. This recipe does just that. With only three ingredients and easy preparation, it’s the perfect drink to make any time.

2 ounces rum
1 ounce lime juice
½ ounce simple syrup

Put ice in a shaker, then pour all of the ingredients in and shake. Pour into a cocktail glass and serve it straight up.

A Classic Blended Pina Colada

An amazing pina colada can transport you from the dreary winter weather wherever you are to the sunny beaches in the Bahamas in one sip. It should have a refreshing, tropical flavor. It may feel somewhat intimidating making a pina colada by scratch, but it really isn’t; all you have to do is dump the ingredients in a blender, and that’s it.

2 ounces white rum
1 ½ cup ice
1 ounce pineapple juice
1 ounce cream of coconut
¼ ounce lime juice

Simply put all of the ingredients into a blender and blend them until they are smooth. Then serve in a hurricane glass or whatever you have on-hand.

Rum Old Fashioned

Whiskey and scotch aren’t the only liquors that can be enjoyed old fashioned. A nice, aged rum is a great liquor that has a well-developed rich, caramel taste, and is a usually darker amber color. Lightly preparing it as an old fashioned gives the liquor a new image. Give it a try – you’ll be glad you did.

1.5 ounces aged rum
½ ounce simple syrup
2 dashes of bitters

Just like any other old fashioned, mix the simple syrup and bitters in a glass. Then, add ice cubes and rum, combine, and enjoy.
