Nor’easter

This zesty and sweet concoction of bourbon, maple syrup, ginger beer, and lime juice was crafted by Sean Josephs for his former barbecue eateries, Maysville and Char No. 4. It stands as a delightful drink by itself or as a complement to a heap of spicy barbecue pulled pork.
If you lean towards less sweetness in your beverages, start with a small amount of maple syrup, taste it, and then adjust by adding more as desired. —Florence Fabricant

Instructions

  • Mix lime juice, bourbon, and syrup in a small pitcher or cocktail shaker according to your preference. Allow the mixture to cool down in the refrigerator or freezer whenever possible until it reaches a very cold temperature.
  • Pour the mixture over ice in a rocks glass, then add ginger beer. Depending on how sweet the ginger beer is, consider adding a touch more lime juice. Finish it off with a lime slice as garnish.
