Mulled Wine
If you could encapsulate coziness in a scent, it would be the fragrance of red wine gently simmering on the stove, infused with citrus and spices, and a hint of brandy for that extra kick. When selecting your red wine, opt for one that's not bone-dry; a touch of fruitiness works wonderfully for this recipe. The budget-friendly Zweigelt from Erdenlied, conveniently available in 1-liter bottles, is a great choice. Feel free to double the recipe if you're hosting a larger gathering.
Instructions
- Use a peeler to carefully strip the orange peel in thin strips from one of the oranges. Next, juice the same orange. Take the other orange and slice it into rounds, setting them aside for later garnish.
- In a saucepan made of nonreactive material, combine the orange peel, freshly squeezed orange juice, and all the remaining ingredients. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar fully dissolves, which should take approximately 2 minutes. Turn the heat to high, boil the mix, and promptly reduce the heat to low. Allow it to gently simmer for about 30 minutes, giving the flavors time to meld together. Once done, strain the mixture, removing and discarding the solids.
- Pour the mulled wine into cups or mugs using a spoon, and garnish each serving with one of the reserved orange rounds. Savor the soothing warmth and delightful aroma!
