Although I find the phrase “women supporting women” cheesy, sometimes supporting other women in the early stages of entrepreneurship pays back. After I received my Sound Healing Certification, the logical next step was to start hosting events, but I had no idea where to start.
My dad told me to read No B.S. Grassroots Marketing by Dan Kennedy, and that’s where things started to click.
One concept that stuck with me was the idea of a joint venture. It’s simple: two businesses partner in a way that benefits both of them.
Think about a fast food spot next to an auto mechanic. The restaurant gives the mechanic discount coupons to hand out to customers waiting on their cars. The mechanic adds value to their customer experience, and the restaurant gets new foot traffic. Everyone wins!
At first, these partnerships are usually local and small. Businesses near you, people already in your network. Over time, they can expand into something much bigger.
That’s exactly what I did!
My first joint venture was with a social club called Sober Hangs Denver. Their whole mission was creating a community without alcohol. And if you know Denver… you know how big the brewery culture is. My best friend is 3 years sober, so their mission immediately stood out to me. I did the simplest thing, I messaged the founder on Instagram and asked if she needed a sound healer at one of her events. The timing couldn’t have been better. She was literally in the middle of planning a St. Patrick’s Day themed wellness event… and needed a sound healer!
Another insane synchronicity, her event was the week before my own sound bath. So while I was facilitating, I was also very aware of what I was doing. In the back of my mind, I was like, “I need these people to fall in love with this experience… so they will come to my event next week.” And I didn’t hold back. I talked to people after, I made connections, I made sure they knew exactly where to find me.
That one joint venture turned into everything I needed. I facilitated for her community, and in return, it led directly to my first sold-out sound bath. Everybody won!
What this taught me was that the greatest way to scale is through collaboration. As women, we don’t need to do everything alone. There is an infinite amount of opportunities and money to be made, and sometimes, we are able to reach our goals faster when we work with people who have the same vision.
Club MamaBee is founded on the principle of joint venture. Our founder Meghna Deshraj, created this space so that like-minded female founders could connect, collaborate, and create together. If you’re looking for your next joint venture, join our Hive and become a Founding Queen Bee.
