7 Important ways to keep the romance alive after your baby is born

For couples, especially those with a new baby, the first few months can be challenging to navigate.

New parents have to learn how to parent, share their home, including their bedroom, and handle house chores in a short period.

The mornings start early while the nights are filled with feeding the baby multiple times; thus, there’s almost no time for the adults to work on their romance and bond.

It is, however, essential to always remember that both mother and father need to work on keeping the romance alive as they are on the same team.

Below are seven of the ways that new parents can keep the romance alive.

PLAN A DATE AND STICK WITH IT

With a new schedule that involves napping, working, cleaning, feeding, and caring for your baby, you need a break.

What that means, sometimes, is planning a date that will require you to leave your baby at home while you go out and spend some quality time together.

You need to start small – probably with a date at the coffee shop down your street on a Saturday afternoon.

If you can’t get time off during the day, you can plan towards having a special dinner or movie night once a week during their bedtime.

The idea of this plan is to ensure that you make spending quality alone time with your partner a priority.

ROLL OUT THE GAMES

If you’re planning to keep the romance in your relationship going even after you’ve had a baby, then this is one tip you don’t want to skip.

Thanks to technology and smartphones, you and your partner can use some apps to play games from the comfort of your bed.

Some of these games, which include “Adult Truth or Dare” and “Dice,” are free and can be played spontaneously with no limit.

The games can even bring back some funny memories and rejuvenate the carefree aspect of your relationship that is often taken over or entirely disregarded by insecurity after a baby is born.

TIME SPENT TOGETHER, NO MATTER HOW LITTLE, IS VITAL

While you are taking care of your new baby, you can take time just to sit down and connect by talking.

No matter how short or long the talking period is, you can achieve a lot by merely letting each other know what is happening with you mentally.

In other words, you can talk about something that happened that day, your challenges at home or the office, or even ask for help from your partner.

Sometimes, the conversation can just focus on how much you love and support each other as it can help as a reminder that you are not alone on the journey.

YOU NEED A NAP

While it might sound weird, taking a nap can keep your relationship going, especially when you feel tired after a day of taking care of the baby.

You can take a nap when your baby is also napping or in between the baby’s feeding and playtime – when somebody’s looking after him/her, of course.

TAKE A DAY OFF AND DO SOMETHING CRAZY

Things can become a little routine or even boring between you and your partner when you welcome a new baby.

The best way to fight the boredom would be to find something new, maybe even crazy, at least once a month, and it doesn’t have to be skydiving.

You can take up something as simple as eating at a new restaurant, going shopping, or taking a pottery class together.

The trick here would be to make whatever event you pick to do, a personal one.

ALWAYS KEEP YOUR PARTNER IN MIND

Once you welcome your baby, it becomes a little too easy for you to become so wrapped up in taking care of them that you forget the needs of your partner.

You need to remember to do something beautiful to show your partner that you’re thinking of them regularly.

BE PATIENT

The last thing that you need to do when it comes to keeping the romance alive is to worry about it.  Not only will your worrying stress you out, but it might also cause a rift between you and your partner.

So, be patient about keeping – or even restoring – the romance in your relationship as this season won’t last forever.
