Relocating to a new home is a massive change for kids. Young kids might not understand an interstate move. Older kids might be nervous about starting over in a new place. Fortunately, there are things you can do to ease their moving day jitters. To make relocating easier for everyone, let your kids help you pack a few boxes. Your children will learn about responsibility, and they will happily keep track of their favorite items.
1- Packing Their Toys
Little kids want more responsibility. Let your small kids know that it is their responsibility to ensure that their toys make it to the new house. Show your child the proper way to pack their toys. You can also let your children label their boxes. Your child will work hard to make sure that their favorite toys do not get misplaced during the move.
2- Sorting Miscellaneous Things
Your older children might want something to do if they are bored. Your older kids can sort through the things that you are going to be moving to your new house. Let your kids pack the miscellaneous things you have around the house. You can ask your children to separate the things into piles. If there are large items that need to be donated, your kids can contact a charity to inquire about donating the items.
3- Pack Fragile Items
You might be worried about having enough time to pack your fragile items. Your older kids can pack your fragile items. If your child knows how to handle glass, you can instruct your child to pack all of the dishes. You can let your child know that fragile items need to be packed in separate boxes. The word fragile should be written on the outside of the boxes. Packing fragile items is tedious. Your kids will be busy, and you will have more time to focus on your more important tasks.
4- Decorate Boxes
Little kids love decorating. You can let your small children draw artwork on the boxes. If you have plenty of boxes, this activity can keep them entertained for hours. Make sure that the boxes are properly sealed before your kids start playing.
5-Tape the Boxes
Kids love playing with tape. Give your little kids their favorite safety scissors. Let them tape all of the boxes for you. Letting them tape the boxes is also a great way for you to keep track of your kids. You will not have to worry about your kids running around while you pack.
The process of getting everything ready for your new home is much easier when you include your kids. Your older kids will be ready for a long break when they finish packing. Your small kids will want to have more fun. When the boxes are packed, you can focus on keeping your kids happy. The movers can handle everything else for you.
