With coronavirus sweeping through the nation, many of the more typical attractions have been closed or altered. As a result, summer 2020 will look drastically different than most summers in the Keystone state. Likely gone are the summer concerts and county fairs, instead replaced by activities that involve smaller crowds. So how should you spend your summer while Hershey Park is closed and there’s no chance of seeing any Pennsylvania bluegrass bands? Here are ten fun things to do in Pennsylvania this summer.

Fourth of July Celebrations

Independence Day is one of the premier summer holidays in the United States, always providing a good time and plenty of celebrations. Pennsylvania is a state that always goes all out for the Fourth of July, as the Declaration of Independence was signed in the state. As a result, you can always find big Independence Day celebrations throughout the state, especially in Philadelphia. Although things will likely be different this year due to the coronavirus, you can be sure that Pennsylvania will still find great ways to celebrate the nation’s freedom.

Lake Days

Pennsylvania has plenty of great lakes, so what better place is there to socially distance than on the beautiful lakeshore? Here you can swim, canoe, kayak, or paddleboard, enjoying all that the lake has to offer. Alternatively, you could just simply sit and relax on the lakeshore, watching the beauty of the lake and soaking up some rays. Having a couple of PA lake days is sure to be a lot of fun, and is a great way to spend your time in PA during the summer.

Another great water activity to partake in is white water rafting. There are plenty of spots in Pennsylvania where this can be done, and the activity is perfect for thrill-seekers. Traditional movie theaters may be closed for time being, but drive-in movie theaters are still a great option for entertainment. Thankfully there are several drive-in theaters across the state, allowing you to watch a movie and still safely socially distance. Many people even prefer the drive-in movie theater experience to the traditional movie experience, as the drive-in theater is extremely unique and fun. If you’re looking for a fun night this summer in Pennsylvania, a drive-in theater could be a fantastic option.

Wine Tasting

Pennsylvania’s neighbor, New York, gets a lot of credit for its great wine tasting, but PA has some great wine tasting spots of its own. Wine tasting can be a great summer activity and can be a great way to get out and hang with friends. Although wine tasting will likely look a little different this summer, there surely still will be ways for you to try out your favorite drinks.

Philly Day Trip

When people think of Pennsylvania, they often immediately think of Philadelphia. The city is rich in history, and still has plenty going for it today. One of the best ways to socially distance is to travel through nature and go on a hike. Thankfully there are plenty of hiking trails throughout the entire state of Pennsylvania. No matter where you are in the state of Pennsylvania, you’re likely never far from a great hiking spot. There are some truly amazing views in Pennsylvania, ranging from massive mountaintops to gorgeous flowing waterfalls, so get out there and start hiking!
