How to Keep in Shape for Busy Business Women

Have you ever wondered how those busy working moms manage to stay in shape and fit their workout routine into their daily schedule? If you are reading this post, I assume you have some difficulties reconciling the two sides of your persona — a fitness maniac and a business woman (or perhaps in your case – a mom and a business woman). So, here are some tips and tricks on how to stay in shape and still be successful in your business.

How to Keep in Shape for Busy Business Women

1. Hire a Personal Trainer

Hiring a personal trainer will save you a lot of time. You will not have to google exercises and dieting regimes and wonder around the gym lurking people. Also, a trainer will become your workout buddy who will help you stay motivated and never skip an exercise.

2. Do Short, but Efficient Workouts

The worst thing about exercising (well, almost the worst thing) is the fact that it is time–consuming. However, there is a solution for busy, working moms! I personally like Shaun T’s T25. Shaun T is the name behind Insanity workout regime. Although Insanity is one of the most popular workout techniques, you have to spend more than an hour every day exercising to get decent results, and nobody’s got time for that! So, Shaun T came up with an equally efficient workout routine that requires only 25 minutes of your time!

Now, you don’t have to follow Shaun T, of course. There are plenty of other online coaches who have adjusted their workout programs to working moms. Try Sadie Nardini’s yoga shred or shorter Pilates routine.

3. Start on Sunday

If you start your workout week on Sunday, you can end it on Thursday, for example, or take some other day off from the gym. This will give you more time to run errands and complete other work-related tasks without your fitness routine suffering. You can also do the least favorite workout on Sunday.

4. Do Your Workouts First Thing in the Morning

Working out in the morning on an empty stomach has several benefits. Low cardio exercises will help you burn fat, and there is no better way to wake up. It will be difficult at the beginning, but you will get used to it. Also, after you’ve completed the workout, you’ll have the entire day for your other tasks.

5. Rent a Locker

If you rent a locker at your gym and keep your stuff there, you will no longer have an excuse to skip an exercise. Also, you will be able to hit the gym straight from work, which is another great way to save time.

6. Use Smartphone Apps

Getting, or staying in shape doesn’t pertain only to how much you exercise. It is also about – what you eat. Throw away all the junk food and replace it with healthy snacks. Use calorie calculator and calculate your daily required calorie intake and stick to that number. Make use of heart rate zones calculator to find out in which heart rate zone your exercise will be most efficient.

7. Prepare Your Meals on Weekends

Preparing your meals for the entire week on the weekend can save you a lot of time. Also, if you have your meals prepared, you will avoid the situation of being forced to eat junk food. Base your diet on lean meat, fibers, low-fat dairy, olive or coconut oil, and nuts. Prefer foods with low glycemic index. Also, eat as many green vegetables as you like, but be careful with fruits – it also contains sugar.

8. Walk to Work

As I’ve already mentioned, low cardio exercise on an empty stomach first thing in the morning is the best way to lose fat, and what is a better low cardio exercise than walking? Besides burning some extra calories, you can also enjoy fresh air, see something interesting, or meet the love of your life! Don’t you ever watch chick flicks?!

9. Deskercising?

Sitting in front of the computer every day for eight straight hours (the best case scenario) can not only have negative effects on your spine, but also increase the risk of cancer up to 60%!!! To avoid negative consequences of sitting, and burn some calories in the process, why don’t you try office yoga or deskercising? If you are a business owner, you can also get a desk treadmill so you can do your work while working out.

The Bottom Line

Staying in shape if you are a busy business woman can be quite a challenge. A busy daily schedule does not leave us a lot of time for exercising. However, if you are motivated, you can get in shape even if you are a career woman by hiring a trainer, walking to work, exercising in the morning, counting calories, preparing your meals on weekends, etc. It really can be difficult fitting fitness into your busy routine. Therefore, choose shorter exercises, half an hour or so, and don’t let the lack of time be an excuse anymore on your fitness journey.
