Elementary School Triples Recess Time and Solves Attention Deficit Disorder

The attention deficit disorder is real, and we all had it, and now our children “suffer” from it.

The public education comes in stressful for our kids. They are now exposed to many test requirements increase and programs. The result of this kind of environment can be now predicted.

One thing that is funny to me is how the medical establishment is still making money out of drugging active children with attention deficit disorder medications.

One Elementary school in Texas figured it out, and it’s changing the game.

Students don’t need to take medications to do well under this pressure.

The medication is a proven method. It’s highly efficient in reducing school violence and increasing the concentration for learning.

Serving them foods with quality foods with higher nutritious value, rather than processed and fast foods. It is another part of creating a better environment for meeting the needs of the kids.

On the other hand, the most natural solution to a behavior like this in school children could be the core idea of giving them more time for free play and engage their bodies in physical activity. It’s a simple solution that sounds pretty good.

That’s how several schools in Texas are trying this new approach that fixes behavioral problems by doing nothing and letting them play outside more often during the school day.

This is not a new thing as this method is already used in Finland and it’s proven successful.

ACCORDING TO TODAY, THE EAGLE MOUNTAIN ELEMENTARY IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS, HAS BEEN GIVING KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST-GRADE STUDENTS TWO 15-MINUTE RECESS BREAKS EVERY MORNING AND TWO 15-MINUTE BREAKS EVERY AFTERNOON TO GO PLAY OUTSIDE. AT FIRST, TEACHERS WERE WORRIED ABOUT LOSING THE CLASSROOM TIME. AND BEING ABLE TO COVER ALL THE MATERIAL THEY NEEDED WITH WHAT WAS LEFT. BUT NOW THAT THE EXPERIMENT HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT FIVE MONTHS, TEACHERS SAY THE KIDS ARE ACTUALLY LEARNING MORE. THAT’S BECAUSE THEY’RE BETTER ABLE TO FOCUS IN CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION WITHOUT FIDGETING.”

There is a key to this success. It’s unstructured play four times every day to break up the mental and physical monotony of the kids in the classroom.

It allows them to develop their minds and bodies to use their energies.

“THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS AGREES, CALLING RECESS “A CRUCIAL AND NECESSARY COMPONENT OF A CHILD’S DEVELOPMENT.” STUDIES SHOW IT OFFERS IMPORTANT COGNITIVE, SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, AND PHYSICAL BENEFITS, YET MANY SCHOOLS ARE CUTTING DOWN ON BREAKS TO SQUEEZE IN MORE LESSONS, WHICH MAY BE COUNTERPRODUCTIVE, IT WARNS.”

“YOU START PUTTING 15 MINUTES OF WHAT I CALL ‘REBOOT’ INTO THESE KIDS EVERY SO OFTEN AND… IT GIVES THE PLATFORM FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO FUNCTION AT THEIR BEST LEVEL.” ~ DR. DEBBIE RHEA, CREATOR AND DIRECTOR OF THE LIINK PROGRAM

It’s time to raise awareness and change some things in the education about Attention Deficit Disorder.

Don’t forget to share this with all of your friends.
