A live-action production of the Lion King is on its way, and its release can’t come soon enough. The adaptation won’t hit screens until summer 2019, but based on the stellar cast that was announced yesterday, it will be well worth the wait!
Most notably, in a role perfectly designed for a queen, the classic Disney recreation will feature the one and only Beyoncé as Nala. Alongside Bey, actor Donald Glover will portray Simba, with James Earl Jones reprising his role as king of the jungle and family patriarch, Mufasa (Jones was cast as the same character in the original film, released in 1994).
12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor will play Mufasa’s evil brother Scar, with the always talented Alfre Woodard portraying Sarabi.
Other notable castings include Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan as the effervescent Timon and Pumbaa, in addition to John Oliver as Zazu and Keegan-Michael Key in the role of Kamari.
On Nov. 1, Disney officially broke the news on Twitter:
